Where We Are
Tarpon Caye Lodge is situated on Tarpon (Tarpum) Caye (island) 15 miles east of the famous Placencia Peninsula, an 18-mile stretch of the most beautiful beaches Belize has to offer, this peninsula sits just out from the mainland in southern Belize. Placencia Peninsula is located 100 miles south of Belize City and the Belize International Airport; our mainland Office is sits in the middle of Placencia Village on the main road and only 2 miles from Placencia Airport.
How To Get To Belize?
Both American Airline and Continental Airlines fly daily to Belize City. American flies through Miami and Continental through Houston (Continental also offers a weekly non-stop flight—every Saturday— from Newark’s Liberty Airport to Belize City). US Air flies through Charlotte, NC, and Delta Airlines has direct flights from Atlanta. TACA Airlines also flies into Belize City. Placencia:
How To Get From Belize City To PlacenciaThere are three ways you can get to Placencia - fly, drive or take a bus.
The Bus
The road from Belize City to the Placencia Junction is fully paved and the Government is currently paving the entire Placencia Peninsula Road out to the main highway, which should be completed by middle of 2010. It takes approximately 3 hours to drive down from Belize City. Taking the bus is the least desirable way to get to Placencia. The buses are not air-conditioned, and they have a reputation for breaking down. Driving
If you are planning to make a tour of the country, spending a few days in the Maya mountains and a few days at the beach, you might want to rent a car. However, if you are just travelling to Tarpon Caye Lodge, we suggest that you fly to Placencia. The scenery driving down is quite lovely. Flying
Flying down to Placencia from Belize City (a 30 minute flight) is the method we most recommend. There are frequent flights to Placencia from Belize City throughout the day on Tropic Air (www.tropicair) and Maya Island Air(www.mayaairways.com), Belize's two local airlines. The round-trip fare is approximately $190 US per person. We offer our guests complimentary pick-up and return service to the Placencia Airstrip. We are also happy to arrange your local flights at no extra cost.
Tarpon Caye Lodge:
Tarpon Caye Lodge is 15 miles from the mainland (45 minute boat ride) and only 6 miles from the Barrier Reef.
